Suero de Luz—an IV of light. In a hospital, an IV is what keeps a flickering life from going out. This project is my light, channeled into an edit, trying to sustain an art form that feels like it’s slipping into a permanent coma.

For the first time in years, I stopped hiding behind “professional polish” and technical formulas and instead relied on my creativity and doing what feels right. Instead, I focused on capturing a feeling. Talking with n00bslayer made me realize I’d been obsessing over the mechanics of editing while losing the heart of the craft. I was so focused on being “clean” that I forgot how to feel.

The Intimate Relationship with the Craft

I view this art form as a girl I once loved whom I had an intimate relationship with. When I was at the top of the Halo scene, I left her. I thought I needed to grow up and move on. In my absence, she found other creators—artists who perhaps love her harder and work harder and longer than I ever could.

The lyrics of Marc Anthony in the video cut deep because they mirror this heartbreak:

“The past is calling and you’re not responding to me, today you look into the mirror and notice you aren’t the same, your make up doesn’t cover up what your heart is hiding, you say you’re over me & it makes me chuckle”

Using a flower theme was my way of trying to win her back, even if just for one night.

A Focus on Vision Over Mechanics

The gameplay isn’t the focus here; I got these clips in like my first couple games I played going for no scopes. I haven’t been good at Halo in a very long time so don’t expect anything wild. This video is about the vision. It’s about the fact that even if she’s “another man’s” now, she gave me her hand for one last dance. For a moment, I felt a connection again.

I poured everything into this. I cried through the process because it’s the most honest I’ve been in years. It’s not a 3D epic, but it is a piece of my soul.

The Poem

This video is dedicated to the girl that captured my heart, the Halo frag movie art form, and the Halo frag-movie community. It’s my way of keeping her alive, even if only in my own light. I walked away from her to “grow up” only to find that my soul stayed behind with her and I ended up losing a piece of myself.
